Trauma can be stored and stuck in the brain’s neural network. This includes blocked traumatic memories, flashbacks, nightmares, and traumatic recall. Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy is a type of adaptive information processing that works to loosen up and unstick blocked and recurring memories. I work with you through a series of eye movements and adaptive information to activate your brain’s natural healing resiliency.
The EMDR International Institute describes it as: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy is better known as Adaptive Information Reprocessing Therapy or Memory Reprocessing Psychotherapy. As this implies, troubling memories are rediscovered and then neurologically and healthfully re-processed into their more normal state. The Fight or Flight or Freeze (and/or Give up) response at whatever age, stops our ability to remember the memory without overreacting (emotional dysregulation). EMDR Therapy helps integrate these difficult memories and makes them regulatable, usable, learnable and adaptable. We can then learn from the reprocessed, normal memory and it is no longer troubling, no longer “recycling” and haunting. The memory never goes away but becomes a memory of the past without distress. Clients learn to emotionally regulate themselves…..They have a choice now… It’s an amazing process.
NeurOptimal® is considered by many to be the most highly evolved form of neurofeedback available today. It is an advanced neuro-technology that offers training to the brain, enabling it to function at its best. It’s mathematically designed to communicate directly with your central nervous system and has been called “the most effective bio-hack on this planet”. It’s considered by many to be the most highly evolved form of neurofeedback available today. After more than 40 years in the neuroscience field and related discipline, Dr. Valdeane Brown and Dr. Susan Cheshire Brown, Zengar Institute founders, have developed a safe, effective system that gives feedback directly to your brain allowing it to regulate itself more efficiently. EMDR and Trauma-based therapies can not be used in conjunction with N-O neurofeedback.
Trauma is deep-rooted and often takes a long time to develop, so it takes time to overcome. That being said, 2 EMDR sessions can deliver the same resolution as 2 to 4 months of talk therapy. The results are often better and longer-lasting. My approach combines talk therapy and EMDR, and is most effective in-person.
I personalize therapy to individual client needs, working collaboratively with you to achieve your goals. Eye movement therapy is not the right fit for everyone, which we will determine during your first few intake sessions. If EMDR is right for you, we will continue with a combination of EMDR and talk therapy.
